Take-Two Announces Major Overhaul in Development of New BioShock Game
Take-Two has announced sweeping changes in the development of the new BioShock title, following significant struggles throughout the process. The company plans to restructure its leadership team after the game spent nearly a decade in development with little progress.
Rumors had suggested that the game would be revealed this year, but a recent report from Bloomberg confirmed that such an announcement is not expected anytime soon.
Interestingly, there are multiple hints pointing to the return of Rapture, the iconic city from the first installment of the series. These clues may indicate a possible remake or remastered version of the original game, which was last updated in 2016.
The game, currently being developed by Cloud Chamber, recently failed an internal review by executives at 2K Games, the publishing subsidiary of Take-Two. According to anonymous sources, the story was identified as a major area needing improvement and will be reworked in the coming months.
As part of the restructuring, 2K Games dismissed studio head Kelley Gilmore and reassigned creative director Hogarth De La Plante to a publishing role.
In a recent meeting, Cloud Chamber employees were informed of the need to improve agility and efficiency, raising concerns about potential layoffs. In an official statement, 2K Games said:
“We are working hard to set BioShock up for the best possible future. Right now, we have a good game, but we are committed to delivering a great one. We are working closely with studio leadership to define that path.”
A company spokesperson confirmed the leadership changes and emphasized their commitment to delivering a new BioShock experience that exceeds fan expectations.
